As a freelance designer, I have the luxury of working on projects that I enjoy. One of my favourite projects at the moment is working with Cigogne BéBé. (For those of you who don’t speak French, like me, this is how you pronounce it – see-GONE-yeah BAY-bay.)
I love working on childrenswear and babywear because everything is so cute! Everything are miniature versions and you can have a lot more fun with it. As you are dressing kids, you can be as colourful or literal as possible.
About the brand
Cigogne BéBé is founded by husband and wife duo, Sabrina & Ken. Founded in 2014, PhD electrical engineer Ken and TV journalist and digital media producer Sabrina decided to leave their previous career behind to start the brand.
So why you might ask would an electrical engineer and a digital media producer leave such prestigious jobs and start a baby brand? The answer is simple, they simply just love babies! They want to create a brand that offers beautifully designed clothing, made with top quality cotton, at reasonable prices.
So how did it all begin?
After leaving the UK, Ken returned to Hong Kong to join the family business in garment manufacturing. After working in the industry for a while, he eventually became a specialist in fabrics and knitwear. Today Ken handles the production side of the brand, whilst Sabrina is the creative director where she leads the design and marketing team.

So what is the meaning behind the name?
“CIGOGNE” is the French word for stork. The stork is also a well-known bird in Asian culture, but in western children’s stories, the stork is known as a mythical bird that brings newborn babies to families.
See! We were’t lying! ; )
To us, the stork symbolizes the arrival of good tidings and blessings.
And just like the stork, we hope our clothes bring joy and laughter to our customers and their loved ones.
Why we love Cigogne BéBé?
They care about your baby, and the world he or she will inherit. That’s why they try to keep our production process as environmentally friendly as they can.
Besides creating products with organic, naturally coloured cotton, they also try to use cotton as much as possible. Their fabric dyes only contain gentle chemicals that are eco-friendly, their resin buttons are recyclable, and their packaging is made out of 100% recycled paper. You can read more about these features here.

And of course, because I am designing for them 😝. My collection isn’t out yet, but stay tuned for more updates.
